Emergency Paediatric First Aid EPFA

​It is important for anyone responsible for the care of infants and children to have the knowledge and confidence to respond quickly in an emergency situation. This Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification provides learners with the practical skills needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid emergencies effectively.

This in-person 1-day course is ideal for parents, guardians, childcare providers and anyone with responsibility for children and babies. Learners will gain essential life-saving skills and practical knowledge to respond confidently and safely to emergencies involving infants and children.

​​The course is fully accredited, providing learners with a nationally recognised qualification.

 

What the course covers

• Role of the Paediatric First Aider

• Primary Survey

• Assessment of the situation

• Dealing with an unresponsive infant or child

• Recovery Position

• Resuscitation (CPR including safe use of an AED)

• Choking

• Seizures

• Wounds, bleeding and shock

• Minor injuries

Who Can Attend

• ​Everyone, but is focused on parents, guardians and family members

• Childcare providers and nursery staff

• Teachers, teaching assistants and carers

• Anyone with responsibility for infants and children

• Anyone wishing to gain a recognised paediatric first aid qualification

• Learners must be over the age of 16.

 

Assessment

​Continuous practical assessment is carried out by the trainer alongside oral questioning throughout the course.

Learners must successfully complete the practical assessments to achieve the qualification. This includes demonstrating effective CPR and placing a casualty into the recovery position safely.

Certificates

• Successful learners will receive the FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification.

• The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement.

• To renew the qualification after expiry, learners will need to complete the full course again.

• Annual refresher training is recommended during the three-year certification period.

 

Numbers

​A maximum of 12 learners can attend each course.

All learners must be a minimum of 16 years of age and ID will be required.

* This course partly fulfils the requirements of Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage require you to have 12 hours of paediatric first aid training, so the 2-Day Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid would be required to fulfil their requirements.
